Saturday, July 31 Private Tour of Hillwood Museum and Gardens - Discover a Magnificent Collection of Russian and French Imperial art. Join your ICDC friends at Hillwood Museum and Gardens to discover and explore one of the most comprehensive collections of eighteenth and nineteenth-century Russian Imperial art outside of Russia, as well as an extensive collection of eighteenth-century French decorative arts. Sunday, August 01Sunset and Moonlight kayaking on the Potomac & picnic at our Georgetown dock. We have timed one of our popular sunset kayaking sessions at Georgetown to coincide with moonlight to make the experience even more spectacular. The lively Sin Miedo band will be entertaining and playing their well-known Latin infused beats for the evening. After the live jazz performance, dance the night away as you make new friends. Friday, August 13 Georgetown Sunset Margarita Cruise on the Potomac River with light food from Lebanese Taverna. Start your weekend with a relaxing cruise on the Potomac River with spectacular views of illuminated monuments at a distance. Friday, August 13 Friday Dance Soiree in Paris: French Embassy wine and dance soiree with Viennese waltz, swing, and salsa lessons followed by an evening of dancing. Start your weekend festivities by joining us Friday evening at the Embassy of France for our dance soiree to dance the night away in the embassy’s ballroom while meeting other ICDC members and making new friends. You are welcome to come on your own or with friends. A dance partner or prior dance experience not needed to attend! Let us show you how to dance the Viennese waltz, one of the most elegant and romantic ballroom dances followed by swing and salsa! Saturday, August 07, 2010. Tour of the US Capitol: Explore the exterior architectural majesty of Union Station, Library of Congress, and the Supreme Court, culminating in a tour of the US Capitol. Join us for a special private tour of the exterior architecture of the eastern end of the National Mall, culminating in the interior of the US Capitol. The tour starts at Union Station, where you will have the chance to enjoy the breathtaking 96-foot coffered ceilings which have made Union Station “one of the finest examples of Beaux-Arts style of architecture.” The tour will continue walking towards the Supreme Court and Library of Congress, as you take in from the outside the architectural wonder of the outer edifice of the buildings of the East National Mall, ending at the Capitol. Our Capitol tour starts with a 15 minute presentation of the history and architecture of this grand monument to democracy. Meet other ICDC members who appreciate the history and national heritage of United States. Our museum and gallery tours are some of our most popular events, and frequently sell out well in advance. Sunday, August 08, 2010. Waterfall Hiking trip to Great Falls Park, Maryland. Great falls is a hidden gem of a National Park located just minutes from DC where the Potomac plunges seventy-six feet through a deep gorge creating a series of scenic waterfalls. We will hike and enjoy a relaxing picnic before heading back to town. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend a day exploring nature while meeting other ICDC members who love to hike. Saturday, August 14, 2010. Library of Congress Guided Tour: Explore the exterior architectural majesty of Union Station and the Supreme Court culminating in a tour of the Library of Congress. Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Jazz Concert and Dancing under the stars in the garden at Dumbarton House in Georgetown (Rain or shine) - Includes free admission to Dumbarton House Museum.
